Occasionally, I allow myself the myth that I'm a good writer. Then I read the sentence that was just mentioned and I realize I need to keep at it. I always wondered who else (besides The Nuge, of course) who was considered the top guns in town before Eddie New Kid came on the scene. Since I was all of 2 or 3 when the album dropped, such perspective helps.

Clearly, I will have my work cut out for Van Halen III if they're all this good.

I've always found that an underrated allure of being a savvy music consumer, sometimes you just have to let things find you. You can wonder why you didn't find them earlier, true, but something you probably like(d) just as much was probably happening for you then right? Jazz never made much sense to me until I was 19, in the throes of my first real relationship, and then The Last Giant 2-Disc Anthology makes all the sense in the world. Even if being both on 3rd base is not the same as hitting a triple.

I did a lot of my music checkouts from the downtown, Green Lake and (of course) Ballard locations. That said, the Northgate and Fremont (where I got the aforementioned Discharge from) are pretty good too.

Honorable mention: Whitney Cummings, who I still say is funny in spite of the "Broke Girls" backlash. Bill Burr is so good that I wish I could relate to him more than I do. Chris Rock's second HBO special made my sides hurt.

Pepitone is awesome and (fingers crossed) destined for Big Things in 2012. Jon Daly's Bill Cosby Bukowski always makes me laugh.

I like Jann Karam's and Fred Stoller's sets from the 13th Annual Young Comedians Special.
