Burly Band Meets Early Man

Alright! Check out what just arrived in the Duty mailbox:
High On Fire is happy to announce a run of headline dates in California for August! High On Fire will be supported by Early Man on all dates. See all the dates below:

August 7th Noctumum Eureka, CA
August 8th Harlows Sacramento, CA
August 10th Starline Fresno, CA
August 11th Fat Cat Modesto, CA
August 12th Alex's Bar Long Beach, CA
August 15th Casbah San Diego, CA **co-headline show with Earthless
This is the kinda stuff that bums us out that we're up in the NW instead of Cali, but, y'know, we're still excited for this quick little money-makin' tour since it can only mean (a) High on Fire's got some new tunes they wanna try out live, and (b) our pretend best friends Early Man get to bro it up big time with the burliest, shirtless-liest band around. We've got our fingers crossed this tour'll be such a smashin' success these guys'll have no choice but to team up for a nationwide tour this fall.

Devon's Top Ten of the 21st Century

Alright, you know the deal. Matt and I dug Metal Sucks' "Top 21 Metal Albums of the 21st Century ... So Far" so much we decided to give you our own top ten lists. I put aside all that "influential" and "envelope-pushin'" mumbo-jumbo and decided to pick ten super-cool records that haven't stopped givin' me a heavy metal boner. Hope you didn't come to read about Isis and Lamb of God!

Let's get it on:

10. Violent Revolution - Kreator - Kreator > Megadeth + Anthrax. 'Bout time we re-think this Big 4 of Thrash thing, eh?

9. Monotheist - Celtic Frost - Band that invented scary metal puts out their best album, and it's a goddamn reunion disc. Who knew?

8. Sons of Northern Darkness - Immortal - Thrash band masquerades as black metal superstars and it's fucking awesome. Without Immortal I wouldn't have written any of those incomprehensible Duty posts!

7. Second Reckoning - C-Average - Best cover art in the biz. Also some sweet D&D instru-metal with sorta super sweet basement production!

6. King of the Road - Fu Manchu - Fu's power chord rock about customized vans and customized Vans makes me 13 again.

5. Two Hunters - Wolves in the Throne Room - Wolves gives me all my favorite Neurosis parts and the parts I wish I liked 'bout Emperor.

4. Popsicle - Diamond Nights - The soundtrack to the earliest of Duty days.

3. Terrifyer - Pig Destroyer - Never has mutilation made me feel so smart.

2. Closing In - Early Man - C'mon, The Sword? Fuck those guys.

1. From Mars to Sirius - Gojira - Came out of nowhere to become the greatest band ever. You have them to thank for my epic Immortal/Nile/Napalm Death post and my assured onset of tinnitus.

Matthew's Top Ten of the 21st Century

So on last week's podcast, Dev and I discuss that Metal Sucks' awesome "Top 21 Albums of the 21st Century... So Far" and we promised to each give ya our top ten. Here is mine:

10. Crack The Skye - Mastodon - An instant classic that will end up higher as the years pass.
9. Blessed Black Wings - High On Fire - Matt Pike is more metal than just about everyone else put together.
8. Death Magnetic - Metallica - One year later and this record keeps getting better.
7. From Mars To Sirius - Gojira - Flyin' Whales. Nuff said.
6. Popsicle - Diamond Nights - This album sounds like summer in Seattle for me.
5. Miss Machine - Dillinger Escape Plan - I still don't understand what the hell is going on, and I like it that way.
4. Ashes of the Wake - Lamb of God - The biggest grower of all time. When from "meh" to "holy fuckin' shit" in 1o listens.
3. Closing In - Early Man - Pretend best friends playing the best riffs of the decade.
2. Rated R - Queens of the Stone Age - If I did drugs, I think this album would be my religion.
1. Leviathan - Mastodon - The gamechanger that brought heavy music back in the fold. "Hearts Alive" is the epic to end them all.

Queens of the Zep Fighters

Ummmm.... fuck yes! As much as Patton + Homme sounds amazing, this lineup is as good as it gets for me as a music fan. JPJ supplies the tastiest of bass in yer face, Grohl a sideman extraordinaire, and everything Josh touches is mighty.

Now, normally with all these projects goin' on I'd be worried when a new Queens record would materialize. But this shit has the potential to be so Heavy Duty, I don't care if these guys ever get back to their main gigs.

S Is For SLLAAAAYYYYYYERRRRR!

Just when I thought Early Man couldn't get any cooler, Early Mike posts this video on his blog. Fucking awesome.
