List o' Top Six: Shoppin' Like It's 1999

Tomorrow's my 29th birthday, and to treat myself I decided to drop some coin on a few of them old-timey compact discs. I predict that no matter how good/okay/super-fucking-awesome these albums are, I'll dump 'em on my iPod, listen to 'em once or twice, and then catch up on Adam Carolla podcasts. But I tell ya, since buying shit is so much goshdarned fun it's time for some:

The Definitive List o' Top Six: Albums I Bought in the Last Two Days!

6. Cream -- some album -- Okay, I'm cheating. I sure as heck didn't buy this, but Matt did and since he spends less on music than I do, his old man purchase deserves a No. 6 with a bullet.

5. Built to Spill -- There Is No Enemy -- Spoiler alert! The rest of my music haul is pretty \m/etal so I thought a little beardy 'n baldy Strats would mellow me out. I used to really like these guys, and today I had the extra $10.

4. Nachtmystium -- Instinct: Decay -- Had a new copy in my hand 'til I saw a cheapy copy in the used bin. Score!

3. Weakling -- Dead As Dreams -- SF black metal that's s'posed to sound like Wolves in the Throne Room and has some dude from The Fucking Champs on guitar. I mostly bought it so the staff at aQuarius Records would think I'm cool.

2. Immortal -- All Shall Fall -- All Shall Hail the Manowar of black metal! Did I really read that Abbath sings on this one? Could that be tr00?

1. Shrinebuilder -- s/t -- And the supergroup to end all supergroups is....pretty good! Of all the albums I bought this is the only one I've had the chance ta listen to. So far I love Wino's slippery riffs and the Sucrets-starved backing vocals, but the MVP clearly goes to Al Cisneros' pissin'-off-my-downstairs-neighbors bass tone. I'm glad to live in a world where reformed speed freaks with thousand-yard stares and homemade tats can make such cool shit.
