Devon's Top Ten of the 21st Century

Alright, you know the deal. Matt and I dug Metal Sucks' "Top 21 Metal Albums of the 21st Century ... So Far" so much we decided to give you our own top ten lists. I put aside all that "influential" and "envelope-pushin'" mumbo-jumbo and decided to pick ten super-cool records that haven't stopped givin' me a heavy metal boner. Hope you didn't come to read about Isis and Lamb of God!

Let's get it on:

10. Violent Revolution - Kreator - Kreator > Megadeth + Anthrax. 'Bout time we re-think this Big 4 of Thrash thing, eh?

9. Monotheist - Celtic Frost - Band that invented scary metal puts out their best album, and it's a goddamn reunion disc. Who knew?

8. Sons of Northern Darkness - Immortal - Thrash band masquerades as black metal superstars and it's fucking awesome. Without Immortal I wouldn't have written any of those incomprehensible Duty posts!

7. Second Reckoning - C-Average - Best cover art in the biz. Also some sweet D&D instru-metal with sorta super sweet basement production!

6. King of the Road - Fu Manchu - Fu's power chord rock about customized vans and customized Vans makes me 13 again.

5. Two Hunters - Wolves in the Throne Room - Wolves gives me all my favorite Neurosis parts and the parts I wish I liked 'bout Emperor.

4. Popsicle - Diamond Nights - The soundtrack to the earliest of Duty days.

3. Terrifyer - Pig Destroyer - Never has mutilation made me feel so smart.

2. Closing In - Early Man - C'mon, The Sword? Fuck those guys.

1. From Mars to Sirius - Gojira - Came out of nowhere to become the greatest band ever. You have them to thank for my epic Immortal/Nile/Napalm Death post and my assured onset of tinnitus.
